Externship Seminar - Tech Tools For Law Practice

Prerequisites: 1L course of study This course is the companion seminar for students enrolled in an Externship fieldwork course with any law office placement. This course will expose students to a wide range of technology tools and strategies for legal practice. By the end of the course, students will be able to find, understand, and use a wide variety of legal tech tools. Students will learn about the theoretical and practical underpinnings of current technologies and how they impact law practice, including e-communications, social networking, data management systems, cloud computing, electronic discovery, and mobile and virtual lawyering. They will also explore a lawyer's ethical obligations in these contexts. Students' fieldwork experiences will serve as additional source material for analysis of and reflection on the impact of technology on law practice.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:

Letter grade only. Students will be assessed based on tech tool-related individual writing assignment and team oral presentation, externship required written assignments, professionalism, preparation, and class participation.
