Entertainment Contracts & Content

This practice-oriented course will prepare you to successfully handle the kinds of transactional work initially assigned when working first jobs in entertainment law firms and legal departments of entertainment companies. We will use development of a major Hollywood motion picture as an instructional model to examine industry legal concepts and practices, with an emphasis on scripted production for movies, television, streaming, theater, and new media. We will see how substantive areas of law are applied to contract negotiation and drafting, content analysis and clearance, and client counseling. We will deep dive into documents which form the basis of a variety of show business transactions through lectures, experiential negotiation and drafting exercises, and simulated client counseling scenarios.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Letter grade only. Students will be assessed based on an at-home final exam (90% of grade) and classroom participation (10% of grade). 2 credits
