Clinic - Disability and Civil Rights
The Disability and Civil Rights Clinic: Advocating for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities - represents low-income New Yorkers, and their families, in a variety of civil matters that impact adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The AAIDD Clinic provides a unique opportunity for students to advocate in diverse areas of law ranging from public benefits, guardianship, housing and access to government services. Students will work in teams of two in client representation. Seminar Credits: 2.00 Seminar: Students will participate in a weekly seminar that provides an introduction to essential lawyering skills, including client, interviewing and counseling, fact development, and courtroom skills. In addition, the Seminar will explore a number of ethical issues that arise in the context of representing clients with diminished capacity
