Biography

Professor Elizabeth Isaacs co-teaches the Criminal Defense & Advocacy Clinic with Professor Kate Mogulescu. She was previously a Supervising Attorney at The Legal Aid Society's Criminal Appeals Bureau, where she represented clients seeking post-conviction relief. Her work included direct appeals, C.P.L. 440 motions, parole advocacy, risk adjudication hearings under the Sex Offender Registration Act, and state habeas corpus petitions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Isaacs co-created the COVID Emergency Release Project, a statewide effort to free medically vulnerable people from New York State prisons through litigation and public awareness campaigns aimed at amplifying the voices of at-risk people behind bars.  Professor Isaacs also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jonathan Lippman on the New York State Court of Appeals.
