12/15/2014 Professor of Law Emeritus Norman Poser wrote a brief article for the New York Law Journal titled “Lord Mansfield’s Continuing Influence on Law.” Professor Poser points out the remarkable prescience of Lord Mansfield, chief justice of the Court of the King’s Bench in the 18th century. Professor Poser Quoted on Investment Portfolios for Retirees

In the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ronald Heakins discussed how the loss of assets for retired investors is not due to the recession, but rather the improper handling of portfolios by brokers. Certain demographics—for example, retirees who largely depend on their investments for living expenses—should not be exposed to market risks. Heakins quoted Professor Norman Poser’s book, Broker-Dealer Law and Regulation: “Perhaps the clearest example of a suitability violation occurs where a broker recommends speculative securities to a customer whose financial situation clearly calls for conservative investments.”
