The Brooklyn Law School community mourns the tragic loss of its recent graduate, Irina Shekhets ‘10, who was killed in a plane crash in Nepal on her 30th birthday.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to Irina’s parents, Tatiana and Boris Shekhets, her sister Marianna, and her family and friends,” said Interim Dean Michael Gerber. “We will miss her.”
“She was an extremely intelligent, talented, and insightful student with a wonderfully engaging personality,” said Professor Claire Kelly.
Irina was valedictorian of her Fair Lawn, N.J. high school class and was at the top of her class at Columbia University. At Brooklyn Law School she excelled and served as Associate Managing Editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law.
“We also extend our sympathy to all who knew and loved the thirteen other victims who died on the plane crash. This is a terrible tragedy,” Gerber said.
