Professor Schneider, director of the Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, is a national expert in the fields of federal civil litigation, procedure, gender law, and domestic violence. The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence honored Schneider as one of 30 leaders making a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence. She served as a consultant for the Secretary-General’s Report on All Forms of Violence Against Women, which was submitted to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Professor Jonathan Askin founded the BLIP Clinic when he joined Brooklyn Law School in 2008, bringing more than a decade of experience in the communications industry from both the public and private sectors. He has served as president and general counsel for the Association for Local Telecommunications Services and was a senior attorney at the Federal Communications Commission. He is actively involved in developing Brooklyn as the 21st century “Silicon Alley,” recognizing the borough as a burgeoning hub for innovative start-ups, and is affiliated with the Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law.

Jessica Attie joined the legal writing faculty in 2010. Professor Attie was previously the Co-Director of the Foreclosure Prevention Project at South Brooklyn Legal Services. She has trained numerous attorneys, community advocates and policy-makers on fair lending and foreclosure issues, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and forums.

Professor Bechtel teaches clinical courses that address a range of corporate, community and real estate topics. One of New York’s foremost experts in low-income or limited equity co-ops, she has written for the ABA Affordable Housing Journal and speaks often on community development issues. She is the co-chair of the New York State Bar Co-op and Condo Committee’s Subcommittee on Affordable Housing.

Professor Caplow is the director of the Law School’s Clinical Education Program and co-director of the Safe Harbor Project. A leader in the field of clinical legal education, she has worked abroad to help augment the clinical curriculum for LLB and LLM students at the University College Cork Faculty of Law, and with a refugee center in Cork. Caplow also spent a semester at the University of Hong Kong helping to establish its first legal clinic.

Professor Fajans is the Law School’s writing specialist. Her book, Writing and Analysis in the Law, now in its fifth edition, is the most widely used first-year legal writing text for law students.

Professor Falk teaches a variety of legal writing courses and has co-authored several widely used reference texts for law students.  She has collaborated on several articles and books with her Professor Fajans in the area of cognitive theory and language and the law.

Professor Feldman is the director of Brooklyn Law School’s Academic Success Program. She is a former chair of the Association of American Law Schools’ Academic Support Section and is currently on that section’s nominating committee. A frequent presenter on issues of academic support, she has spoken at the Law School Admission Council Conference and at various workshops. She serves on the executive committee of a not-for-profit organization providing housing and support services for the recently homeless.

Professor Godsoe co-created and co-teaches a public interest law class, highlighting various models of public interest lawyering and ethical issues confronting attorneys in this field. She also discusses public interest law in her Children and the Law and Professional Responsibility classes. Godsoe is an expert in children’s rights, education and juvenile justice issues. Prior to teaching, she engaged in impact litigation and direct services at a number of organizations including Advocates for Children and Legal Aid. Godsoe was awarded a Skadden Fellowship upon graduation from law school and currently chairs the Juvenile Justice Committee of the New York City Bar.

Professor Herman is a nationally-recognized expert on the U.S. Supreme Court and constitutional law. She is the president of the American Civil Liberties Union, an organization she has worked with for over 25 years. As a constitutional law specialist, Herman has written books and numerous articles on civil liberties issues, including the due process rights of prisoners, the Patriot Act, the Fourth Amendment, socioeconomic rights and equality, and the First Amendment. She is a regular commentator in the media.

Professor Kotkin is the director of the Brooklyn Law School Employment Law Clinic and teaches New York Civil Practice. She has taught civil procedure, aministrative law, civil rights law, and interviewing and counseling. She has written and lectured extensively on issues of employment discrimination and clinical legal education.

Elizabeth Kane directs the Public Service Office, which provides individual counseling and information on summer and academic year externships, pro bono opportunities, community service, and helps students apply for postgraduate fellowships and employment opportunities. Kane spent more than a decade as Director of the West Side SRO Law Project-Goddard Riverside. Her extensive connections and experience have established the Public Service Office as a vital student resource.

Professor Kysar teaches and researches in the areas of federal income tax, international tax, legislation, and statutory interpretation.  Her recent scholarship examines the tax legislative process and has appeared in several prominent journals. Prior to joining Brooklyn Law School in 2008, Professor Kysar practiced at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where she was responsible for the tax aspects of complex domestic and international transactions.

Professor Minda is a prolific scholar in the fields of labor law, antitrust law and jurisprudence. He is the author of numerous law review articles and chairs the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Law & Interpretation.

Professor Murumba teaches and writes in the fields of international human rights and intellectual property. A refugee who fled the regime of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, he continues his lifelong commitment to human rights. Murumba was recently honored by Human Rights Watch for his decades of service to the organization, including as a board member and advisor to the Women’s Rights Division and the Africa Division. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and of its subordinate courts.

Mark Noferi joined the legal writing faculty in 2010. Professor Noferi’s research interests focus on immigrants’ rights, with interests in immigration law, criminal law, constitutional law, and administrative law. He teaches a seminar on immigrants' civil rights, serves as faculty advisor to BLS’ Immigration Court Observation Project, and has assisted BLS’ Safe Harbor asylum clinic. Before joining Brooklyn Law School, Professor Noferi was a Public Interest Fellow at the Seton Hall Center for Social Justice.

Professor Reiss concentrates his scholarship on real estate finance issues and is well known for his research on the subprime secondary mortgage markets. Reiss directs the Community Development Clinic, which represents development corporations, cultural institutions, affordable housing providers, and small businesses that serve under-represented communities. He serves on the boards of several local organizations.

Professor Smulian teaches the Safe Harbor Clinic, in which students represent individuals in a range of cases affecting their status and entitlements in the United States. He has a strong background in public service lawyering. He served as the director of training and legal services at the New York Immigration Coalition, managing a statewide program that provides seminars and educational events on immigration law and immigrants’ rights issues for immigrant communities. Previously, he was associate director for legal services at Catholic Charities Department of Immigrant and Refugee Services.

Professor Taylor is an authority on consumer law, contracts, and credit and employment discrimination. For the past 30 years she has served as a consultant for Fair Lending and Workplace Equity, focusing on equal credit opportunity and equal employment opportunity laws. She has written extensively on the federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act and is a former member of the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer Advisory Council. She also participated as an instructor in a Federal Trade Commission program to train its attorneys on fair lending and other consumer banking issues.

Professor Tebbe teaches constitutional law, religion and the law, and professional responsibility. His scholarship focuses on the relationship between religious traditions and constitutional law, both nationally and internationally. His articles have appears in numerous law journals and he is the Chair of the Law and Religion Section of the Association of American Law Schools.

Professor Urs joined the faculty in 2011 from the Brooklyn Family Defense Project in New York City, where she was a staff attorney. She previously served as law clerk to Judge Deborah A. Batts of the Southern District of New York. Following law school she was a Resident Fellow for the Open Society Justice Initiative in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and she has published several articles on Cambodian international human rights issues.
