BLS Earns A+ on preLaw’s Top Law School for Business Law Honor Roll

10/26/2026

Brooklyn Law School has once again secured an A+ for Business Law on preLaw Magazine’s "Business Law Honor Roll," a ranking that reflects the breadth of the school’s business law curricular offerings and its strong emphasis on practical training to help students develop both legal skills and the business perspective required to counsel clients.

As the article accompanying the Honor Roll ranking states: "Business lawyers need to understand more than the law. They must also understand how businesses operate, assess risk and make decisions in an increasingly complex marketplace."

The Law School was also featured in a separate article published in preLaw, which asserts that the A+ grade reflects how BLS "continues to broaden its hands-on learning offerings, giving students new opportunities to work directly with clients, engage with leaders in the legal profession and develop practical skills for an evolving legal marketplace."

New developments that made BLS stand out among its peers in the past year, include:

  • The December 2025 launch of the new, in-house Sports Law Clinic, led by Professor Jodi Balsam, which provides free legal services to athletes and sports organizations as they navigate complex legal issues.
  • The work of the Brooklyn Law Incubator & Policy (BLIP) Clinic, directed by Professor Jonathan Askin, which "continues to stand at the forefront of legal innovation." Most recently, BLIP students have gained firsthand experience by delving into cutting-edge questions involving artificial intelligence.
  • An increased focus on how the legal field should address/incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), including sessions on the topic during the The Law School’s third annual EDNY Day, which brought approximately two dozen judges from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York to campus and strengthened the school’s longstanding relationship with the federal judiciary. AI was discussed during the Town Hall session.
  • Continued success of the Law School’s Business Boot Camp, cofounded by Michael Gerber, the Michael Simmons and Michael Gerber Professor of Law. In January 2026, the program celebrated 14 years of bringing students an immersive, practice-focused business law experience and a chance to meet and network with alumni. This year, a new session on AI was included.

Each school’s business law scores are weighted as follows: 30 percent for a concentration, 24 percent for a clinic, 12 percent for a center, 12 percent for an externship, 9 percent for a journal, 8 percent for a student group, 5 percent for a certificate, and added value for additional offerings.
