Prof. Debbie Bechtel founded the Corporate and Real Estate Clinic in 1997 to address both a need for free high quality legal services for struggling low-income cooperative boards and a need at Brooklyn Law School for transactional clinic experiences. Every semester since then, 6-10 students each semester have helped to preserve affordable housing by representing more than 350 co-ops struggling with deteriorating buildings, mounting real estate taxes and complicated regulatory and operational decisions.
