Biography

Professor Trowel teaches Criminal Procedure: Investigations as an Adjunct Professor of Law. He previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where he investigated and prosecuted domestic and transnational crime, including racketeering, money laundering, fraud, identity theft, bribery, murder and other violent crimes. He also served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Appeals Division and has briefed more than 70 cases and argued more than 15 cases before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

 After leaving the US Attorney's Office, Professor Trowel helped to launch Free and Fair Litigation Group. He served as Managing Principal of Free and Fair until May 2026, and now serves as Of Counsel.

 After law school, Professor Trowel clerked for the Hon. Reena Raggi of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the Hon. Faith Hochberg of the District of New Jersey.
