The Housing Justice Clinic (HJC) coordinates the development of student attorney skills in client centered and community-based advocacy. Student attorneys work alongside tenants, homeowners, and local non-profit organizations to preserve housing security throughout New York City.
Clinic students advocate for housing stability throughout New York City in various forms including:
- Representing tenants in nonpayment of rent and repair cases in Brooklyn Housing Court and Red Hook Community Justice Center
- Drafting Estate Planning and End-of-Life planning documents
- Filing Source of Income Discrimination cases for tenants receiving housing vouchers
- Answering calls on NYC's 311 Tenant Helpline run by the Legal Aid Society
- Developing Know Your Rights presentations on Estate Planning, Tenant Housing Repairs, and Deed Theft
