Brooklyn Law Faculty Hires Draw Praise from Influential Leiter’s Law School Reports

08/29/2017

Recent faculty hires by the Law School are prompting legal academia to take note, according to Brian Leiter's Law School Reports, the influential blog of the University of Chicago Law School professor.

In his August 28 post, “Eight lateral moves that made people ‘stop and take note’ in 2016-17,” Leiter highlights the recent hiring of Criminal Justice Professor Alice Ristroph, lauding it as another move that positions Brooklyn among top law schools.

Leiter calls Ristroph “the second notable senior hire for Brooklyn in the last two years” following the addition of Professor Alex Stein in 2016. Leiter concludes, “Despite the turmoil in legal education, Brooklyn seems poised to give Fordham competition for the #3 spot in academic excellence among New York area law schools.”

Ristroph recently joined the Law School after teaching at Seton Hall and the University of Utah. She teaches and writes in the areas of criminal law and procedure, constitutional law, and political theory.

Stein joined the Law School last July from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is among the most highly cited scholars in the field of Evidence and has additional expertise in the areas of Torts, Medical Malpractice, and Criminal Law.
