Biography
Dr. Samuel Murumba has taught at Brooklyn Law School since 1992 after teaching at Monash University Law School in Melbourne, Australia for many years. He teaches, writes, and serves on professional and policy bodies in the fields of intellectual property and human rights. He is affiliated with the Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law and is an Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellowship Committee Member.
A member of the American Law Institute since 1995, and an adviser on the ALI Project on Intellectual Property: Principles Governing Jurisdiction, Choice of Law, and Judgments in Transnational Disputes, Professor Murumba has also served as the Intellectual Property Section Editor of the Australian Business Law Review, and as a member of the Law Council of Australia’s Intellectual Property Committee. In November 2011, he was elected to ALAI-USA (Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale).
Professor Murumba has been actively involved in the mission of several organizations committed to human rights. In 2009 the Human Rights Watch Board of Directors honored him by electing him Emeritus Director, after serving as a member of the Board of Directors for twelve years. He serves on the Board’s Policy Committee and the Advisory Committees of the HRW Women’s Rights Division and the Africa Division. He has also served as a member of the New York City Bar’s Committee on Human Rights and he is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
