2023 Commencement Speaker

It is our great pleasure and honor to announce that the Hon. Letitia James, Attorney General for the State of New York, has accepted Brooklyn Law School’s invitation to be the keynote speaker at our 122nd Commencement Ceremony.
An inspiring and dedicated attorney who has throughout her career fought for the rights of the most vulnerable, AG James has served as a powerful advocate for the protection of natural resources, and reproductive, immigrant, consumers’, workers’, tenants’, and voting rights, and for the prosecution of drug and gun traffickers. Now in her second term as Attorney General, James also exemplifies a career of firsts in public service. When she was initially elected to that office in 2018, she became the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York and the first woman to be elected Attorney General. A former Public Advocate for the City of New York, when she was elected in 2013, she became the first woman of color to hold citywide office.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, James graduated with a J.D. from Howard University School of Law and began her career as a public defender for the Legal Aid Society, followed by her service as New York City Council Member representing Brooklyn’s 35th Council District.
We are so pleased to welcome AG Letitia James, one of Brooklyn’s own and a source of great pride in the legal community, to address our graduating students and their friends and families, our colleagues, and distinguished guests, at this milestone event.
