Brooklyn Law School is pleased to announce that Courtney Clark ’21 and Jahi Liburd ’22 have been elected to serve as Recent Graduate Trustees on the Board of Trustees for the next two years. They were elected at the January Board meeting, as Mallika Bolla ’20 and Lillian Smith ’16 concluded their service.

As Recent Graduate Trustees, Clark and Liburd will help ensure that the Law School’s newest alumni are represented in the Board’s work.

"Over the years, we have found that our recent graduates bring invaluable perspective to the Board, helping ensure that the experiences of our newest alumni are reflected in our efforts to advance the mission of Brooklyn Law School," said Frank Aquila ’83, Chair of the Board of Trustees and a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell. "We are delighted to welcome Courtney and Jahi and look forward to the contributions they will make to the continued success of the Law School."

Courtney Clark ’21

Courtney Clark ’21 is counsel for Legal & Business Affairs at Madison Square Garden Sports Corp., where she advises on U.S. securities law and corporate governance matters, and supports the public company and corporate secretary function of MSG Sports, MSG Entertainment, and Sphere Entertainment.

Before joining MSG Sports, Clark was a capital markets associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell, advising clients on transactions including initial public offerings, equity offerings, and debt offerings, as well as Securities & Exchange Commission reporting and corporate governance matters.

Clark earned her accelerated two-year J.D. from Brooklyn Law School summa cum laude. While at the Law School, she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society’s Appellate Division, a staff member of the Brooklyn Law Review, and a research assistant in constitutional and First Amendment law. She also participated in the Brooklyn Law Incubator & Policy (BLIP) Clinic and earned CALI (Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction) Excellence for the Future Awards in Property and Legal Research & Writing.

Prior to law school, Clark earned both a B.S. in Finance and an M.B.A. with a concentration in business analytics from St. John’s University, where she served as a graduate assistant with the Global Loan Opportunities for Budding Entrepreneurs (GLOBE) program, which provides microloans to entrepreneurs in developing countries.

"The legal skills I developed at Brooklyn Law School, along with the dedicated mentorship I received from my professors and the lasting friendships I formed during my time there, have played a significant role in shaping my professional path after graduation," Clark said. "I look forward to this opportunity to give back to Brooklyn Law School in my capacity as a Trustee."

Jahi Liburd ’22

Jahi Liburd ’22 is a litigation associate at Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein in New York whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class actions and mass tort matters. His work includes drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, preparing deposition strategies, and supporting trial preparation in federal and state courts.

Liburd earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2022. While at the Law School, he served as president of the Brooklyn Law School Black Law Students Association and was active in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society, the Northeastern Black Law Students Association, and the International Law Society, where he served as alumni chair. He was a recipient of the Law School’s Kanter Kornblau Scholarship for his commitment to mentoring others.

Born in Brooklyn, Liburd grew up in Saint Kitts and Nevis and graduated from Baruch College (CUNY) with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a minor in philosophy before attending Brooklyn Law School.

"I am grateful to Brooklyn Law School for the way it has shaped me as a legal thinker and as a person," Liburd said. "During my time at the Law School, I encountered not only legal problems, but questions about human coexistence, the stewardship of finite resources, and how to shape an environment where everyone can thrive. And I received guidance not only from professors on the legal questions, but from faculty and staff on those equally important human ones. This made clear why people from all backgrounds have come through BLS and gone on to achieve great things, and why that mission is worth carrying forward. I am honored to play a part in that continued evolution as a Recent Graduate Trustee on Brooklyn Law's Board of Trustees."

Brooklyn Law School also extends its gratitude to Mallika Bolla ’20, an associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and Lillian Smith ’16, a partner at Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick, who are concluding their service as Recent Graduate Trustees. The Law School thanks them for their time, insight, and dedication to the Brooklyn Law School community. Clark and Liburd now join the Board as the newest alumni voices helping to guide the institution’s future.
