Brooklyn Law School has been recognized as one of the "Top U.S. Law Schools for Fashion Law" by The Fashion Law (TFL), which reports on legal and commercial forces shaping the global retail market. The list was released Tuesday, Feb. 10, just as New York Fashion Week kicked off citywide.

TFL’s editorial team, composed of lawyers and legal analysts, bases the rankings on the degree to which schools feature fashion law programs, courses, certificates, and other pathways into fashion and retail law careers.

Brooklyn Law School integrates fashion law into its broader strengths in business, intellectual property, and commercial law. Located in Downtown Brooklyn, the school features a dedicated Fashion Law course that examines the core legal issues and commercial challenges facing the U.S. fashion and retail industries, and how those dynamics shape legal practice. Complementing the academic curriculum, Brooklyn Law’s student-run Fashion Law Society hosts an annual Fashion Law Symposium, bringing together industry experts to address topics such as intellectual property, sustainability, and brand protection.

In November, students from the Fashion Law Society, led by Olivia Dinkins ’26, Daniel Striapko ’26, and Berta De la Rosa ’26, helped organize the symposium, which featured a series of thought-provoking panels on hot topics in fashion law. There were panels on fashion, law, and sustainability; counterfeiting in fashion; how in-house legal teams can combat fashion counterfeiting; and labor rights and technology in the modeling profession.

Dinkins said the team was incredibly honored at the TFL recognition and especially proud of the Symposium mention. "This recognition reflects the incredible work of our faculty, alumni, and student leaders who are shaping important legal conversations within the fashion industry," Dinkins said.

Adjunct Professor Olivera Medenica ’00, who teaches Fashion Law, expressed pride in her students and those who "participate so passionately" in the Fashion Law Society. "This recognition goes to them and their collective work in continuing to build this growing field that we call Fashion Law," said Medenica, managing partner at Dunnington Bartholow & Miller.

The Law School extends its special thanks to the alumni panelists featured at the most recent Symposium, including Maja Szumarska ’11, SheppardMullin; Michael Khorsandi ’06, Ross Stores; Doreen Small ’84, Davis Shapiro Lewit & Grabel; John Maltbie ’96, Louis Vuitton North America; Kenneth Anand ’02, Jayaram Law; and Jared Goldstein ’17, Jared Goldstein Law, who were joined by other professionals in the field. The keynote session featured Maltbie interviewing Anand and Goldstein, authors of the book Sneaker Law.
