Disability and Civil Rights Clinic Panel Discussion: Gender Dysphoria Under the ADA: Examining the Implications

The Disability and Civil Rights Clinic is hosting a panel on the intersection of disability and LGBTQ+ rights by reflecting on the 4th Circuit's decision in Williams v. Kincaid which stated that gender dysphoria is not a statutorily excluded condition under the disability protections of the ADA. The ADA specifically excludes certain characteristics such as “transvestism, transsexualism… gender identity disorders not resulting from physical impairments, or other sexual behavior disorders.” On June 30th, 2023, the Supreme Court refused to grant certiorari on this decision. We will be hosting a group of legal experts to explain the 4th Circuit’s decision and analyze the social and legal effects this has on the disability and LGBTQ+ communities.

This program is being held virtually on Zoom.

There will be ample opportunity for audience questions.
