Second Annual Sustainability and Future Cities Boot Camp
Climate change is on everyone’s minds today, and many municipalities have begun to implement new laws that affect the built environment in our nation’s cities. In 2019, the New York City Council passed the Climate Mobilization Act (CMA), an ambitious set of laws requiring property owners to comply with new carbon reduction standards for buildings—the largest emitters of carbon. The laws reflect New York City’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The CMA also includes legislation that provides resources for low-interest finance that may reduce the economic burden of building owners in making material changes to their properties to comply with the laws. But there are many property owners that either still do not understand the CMA or have not started making changes to their buildings that would comply with the CMA and thereby avoid major monetary penalties.
In response to these issues, Brooklyn Law School is offering its Second Annual Sustainability and Future Cities Boot Camp to provide participants answers on how to achieve some of the regulatory requirements that need to be satisfied.
The program will commence with a Keynote address from Camille Joseph Varlack ’03, Chief of Staff to Mayor Eric L. Adams, Office of the Mayor of New York City.

CLE Credit Offered
The program provides 1.5 CLE credits in the State of New York. Partial credit is not available. The credits are transitional and non-transitional and the category is Professional Practice. Materials will be distributed digitally prior to the event. Please print out a hard copy if you would like to have one as a reference. A limited number of printouts will be available upon email request to cle@brooklaw.edu by the deadline of April 14.
The program is free of charge, regardless of whether you attend for CLE credit.

Only guests with proof of a primary COVID-19 vaccination series with an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed vaccine may visit the main Law School building (250 Joralemon St.) or our high-rise residential building, Feil Hall (205 State St.). One-time visitors and guests who wish to attend in-person events are also required to provide the security guard on duty at the Law School with proof of vaccination and current identification (including your name, photo, and date of birth).
