Writing for the Trial Lawyer
Students will draft various documents that a trial lawyer typically crafts in the course of a civil trial, including (1) Pre-trial Briefs, (2) Jury Instructions, (3) Motions in limine, and (4) Settlement Memoranda. There will be in-class writing assignments and group exercises/role playing to illustrate different concepts. Each student will prepare and submit various written materials, and make an oral presentation. There are also two individual instructor-student conferences.
Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Letter grade with pass/fail option. Written work is assigned on a regular basis so that this course will satisfy the Upperclass Writing Requirement.
