Us and European Privacy Law
This course examines modern threats to individual privacy, ranging from government surveillance to financial "identity theft" to "big data" collected by social media, smartphone apps and other Internet companies. The United States and Europe are the world leaders in protecting individual privacy. In 2016, the European Union will launch new data protection regulations, affecting data flows and business transactions worldwide. In fact, US companies must now comply with EU privacy law. Privacy law is a growth sector of the legal market, and US lawyers need to know European privacy and cybersecurity law. There are no prerequisites for this course.
