Healthcare Reg: Compliance & Enforcement
Healthcare is 1/6 of the American economy, and health law is a fast-growing and increasingly important area of legal practice. It ranges from giving regulatory advice to healthcare companies and individual providers to handling civil, regulatory, and criminal investigations and to trial and appellate litigation. This class will prepare students for career in a health law by understanding the complexity of the American healthcare system; the laws and regulations designed to curb fraud, waste, and abuse; and coverage, reimbursement, and privacy rules. Specifically, we will approach these issues from the perspectives of regulators, enforcement, and internal compliance staff. Practically, this class will involve a series of hands-on group exercises that teach students how to conduct and respond to investigations. It also will help students learn from, and connect with, experienced practitioners who work in healthcare compliance, enforcement, and regulation.
