Financial Modeling
Effective attorneys have a deep knowledge of the legal issues that their clients face, as well as an understanding of their clients' business issues and financial decision-making processes. This course is an introduction to the underlying theory, applications, and benefits of financial modeling, which can be applied to a career in law and/or business. The course will cover the process of analyzing and building a financial model for framing and assessing business decisions, the use and applications of Microsoft Excel as it relates to financial modeling, the nterpretation of financial statements, and the valuation of an entity. The course will rely on an integrated case study, in which students will evaluate the financial condition of a business and estimate a preliminary value for the business using the discounted cash flow (DCF) and guideline transaction/comparables methods.
