Euro Hum Rts Law & Refugee Crisis Italy

This course will survey the European legal frameworks for protection of forced migrants. We will start by looking at the international law that sets forth legal obligations concerning refugees and internally displaced persons. We will next turn our attention to Europe, home of the most developed regional human rights and refugee law. We will examine both the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Union Asylum System. We will pay particular attention to the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights (the Strasbourg Court) as applied to asylum seekers who have sought refuge in Italy.
