Ent. Contracts & Content
This practice-oriented course will prepare students to successfully handle the kinds of transactional work initially assigned when working first jobs in entertainment law firms and legal departments of entertainment companies. We will use development of a major Hollywood motion picture as an instructional model to examine industry legal concepts and practices, with an emphasis on scripted production for movies, television, streaming, theater, and new media. We will see how substantive areas of law are applied to contract negotiation and drafting, content analysis and clearance, and client counseling. Using lectures and question & answer periods, we will deep dive into documents which form the basis of a variety of show business transactions. Grading and Method of Evaluation: Letter grade only. Students will be assessed based on an at-home final exam (90% of grade) and classroom participation (10% of grade).
