Employment Law & Discrimination

This course examines the important relationships and theories that undergird the law of work. We will devote special attention to the lenses of economic and political theories in understanding how work law regulates relationships, from the time an employer considers hiring new employees until they leave the workforce. Topics will cover every issue arising from the relationship, including: defining "employment," the at-will doctrine, anti-discrimination law, employment contracts, leaves, post-employment covenants, constitutional and quasi-constitutional protections, workplace torts, protected concerted activity and other labor organizing protections, administrative law requirements, and the rise of arbitration.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Letter grade with pass/fail option. Final exam.
