Civ Ext Sem Learning From Intl Practice
This course will explore the impact of culture on legal practice in the United States from the point of view of a foreign student. It will facilitate student reflection about the social and professional expectations in play when working at U.S. law firms and legal institutions. Challenging the perceived boundary between social and professional relationships, this course will encourage students to surface and interrogate customs, norms, and unwritten rules. Students will be encouraged to bring workplace challenges and victories to class for dissection, evaluation, and feedback from the group. Individual reflective writing assignments coupled with an oral presentation, will equip students with the skills needed to be flexible at work and successful in a range of legal environments in the United States.
