Advanced Patent Law
This course serves as a follow on to the introduction to patent law course, which is a prerequisite. We will dive deeply into various topics relating to patent litigation in district court. We will explore the various stages of patent litigation including pleadings, claim construction, discovery, pre-trial and trial. We will also cover administrative proceedings before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (PTO), including inter partes review and post grant review proceedings. Finally, we will cover topics ancillary to patents including trade secrets. This course is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law and patent litigation in particular. No scientific or technical training is required to succeed in the class. This class will not have a final and can be used for the additional writing requirement. The course will be taught by Josh Raskin, a Shareholder at Greenberg Traurig. Mr. Raskin is Co-Chair of the firm's global patent litigation group and the Chair of the firm's NY IP & Technology Group.
