ADR Competitions
Competing in Alternative Dispute Resolution (negotiation, mediation, and arbitration) competitions provides law students with an excellent opportunity to strengthen their advocacy skills through creative problem solving and counseling, consistent with the growing trend of dispute resolution in the legal profession. Each team of law students participating in the competitions produces extensive written briefs or contracts, and spends weeks practicing simulated negotiations, mediations, or arbitrations in preparation for the actual competition. As the newest honor society, Brooklyn Law School's teams have already been distinguished in various competitions throughout the nation and have been invited to participate in a growing number of competitions. This year, the Law School will enter approximately 16 teams in national competitions spanning all areas of the law. Among some of the competitions the Law School has regularly entered are: the Robert R. Merhige, Jr. National Environmental Negotiation Competition, Tulane National Baseball Arbitration Competition, ABA Law Student Division Mediation Competition, Nelson Mandela International Negotiation Competition, Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition, and FINRA Securities Dispute Triathlon. Grading: Pass/fail only.
