Biography
Ryan Williams joined Brooklyn Law School as a Visiting Professor of Law in the fall 2024 semester. He is an Associate Professor at Boston College Law School.
He teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, federal courts, civil procedure, and the conflict of laws. His research has explored the background and original public understandings of various constitutional provisions, including the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clauses, the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause, the Ninth Amendment, and the Guarantee Clause of Article IV. He has also written articles that address, among other things, the institutional relationship between the U.S. Supreme Court and the lower courts and the relationship between the Constitution and the civil litigation process.
After graduating from Columbia Law School, Professor Williams worked as a litigation associate in the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell, where his practice focused primarily on class actions and other complex commercial litigation. After leaving practice, he was a Sharswood Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Law School from 2011 to 2013 and an associate-in-law at Columbia Law School from 2013 to 2016.
