Biography

David Nachman is a lawyer, activist and adjunct law professor. During a 15-year career at the New York Attorney General's Office, most recently in the Executive Division, he led some of the Office's most far-reaching investigations and litigations, including: the multistate effort to hold Volkswagen accountable for deceptively selling, throughout the US and abroad, "clean diesel" vehicles that weren't really clean; the states' legal attack against manufacturers, distributors and dispensers of opioid painkillers, and their consultant McKinsey, as well as the bankruptcy proceedings involving Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family; former AIG Chairman Hank Greenberg's securities fraud case; and, in his capacity as head of Charities enforcement, numerous fraudulent solicitation and breach of duty cases in the nonprofit arena. Before joining NYAG, Prof. Nachman had a varied Big Law litigation and pro bono practice. He is a past Chair of the New York City Bar's International Human Rights committee and currently serves on the board of Human Rights First.
