Brooklyn Named a ‘Top Law School’ Where ‘Power Lawyers Got Started’ by The Hollywood Reporter

For the fourth straight year, Brooklyn has made The Hollywood Reporter’s list of top 12 law schools that have produced the entertainment industry's most powerful attorneys.

The list is part of the magazine’s annual “Power Lawyers” feature, which this year included Allen Grubman ’67, Charles Ortner ’71, and Martin Singer ’77.

Grubman, who made the publication’s list of top music business attorneys, is senior partner of Grubman, Shire & Meiselas. Once exclusively focused on music, and clients like Bruce Springsteen and Madonna, Grubman has expanded his practice in recent years to include film and TV.

Ortner is a Partner in the Litigation Department of Proskauer Rose and the National Legal Counsel to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Last year he was appointed to a second six-year term on the board of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

Singer is a founding member of Lavley & Singer in Los Angeles and one of the most sought-after entertainment and business litigators in the country. His client list includes Bruce Willis, Halle Barry, and Angelina Jolie, among others. Singer last year won a $2.3 million arbitration award for Content Partners in a dispute with Cross Creek Pictures over feature The Woman in Black.
