Fundamentals of Legal Drafting: Litigation

This course will cover basic principles of drafting that apply to different types of litigation-related documents, including complaints and answers, discovery filings, and substantive motions. Students will develop skills in: (1) critical analysis of documents and cases; (2) conceptualization (analyzing facts, identifying major legal issues, assessing applicable precedents and arguments); (3) logical and systematic arrangement of material (using a topical focus, using appropriate headings and sub-headings, placing material in the appropriate order, using tabulation); and (4) legal writing (employing language that is professional, clear, and persuasive).

Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Students will be graded on written assignments. Course satisfies the UCWR. Letter grade only.
