12.23.14 Jeff Gewirtz ’94 Named Sports Counsel of the Year by The Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel

The Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel announced that Jeff Gewirtz, Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and Chief Legal Officer, Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center, will be honored as its 2014 Sports Counsel of the Year. Gewirtz, along with fellow honorees, will be presented with his award at a black tie gala on January 9th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.

Gewirtz, who was featured in the Spring 2013 issue of LawNotes, oversees legal and business affairs for both the Nets and Barclays Center. Following graduation, Gewirtz joined the New York City offices of Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller, LLP, where he served as the associate to the then general counsel of the USTA, who was a partner at the firm. Since then, he has held one dream sports lawyer job after another, including in-house counsel for the WTA Tour, General Counsel for the LPGA Tour, sports, entertainment and media counsel in The Coca-Cola Company's Corporate Legal Division, Director of Legal Affairs for the International Olympic Committee’s Television & Marketing Services division, and, most recently, the General Counsel and Chief Legal & Government Affairs Officer for the United States Olympic Committee.

"I am humbled and honored to have been selected by the Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel as the 2014 Sports Counsel of the Year,” said Gewirtz. “Having had the opportunity, since 2007, to work as a lawyer for the first major professional sports team to grace the borough of Brooklyn ‎since 1957 and for Barclays Center, as well as to work with our principal owners Mikhail Prokhhorov and Bruce Ratner, along with our CEO Brett Yormark, has truly been a labor of love."
