As if being a full-time law student was not enough, David Shapiro ’15 has taken on another role: novelist.

Shapiro just published his debut novelYou’re Not Much Use to Anyone (New Harvest), a semiautobiographical coming-of-age story that has already won praise from ViceThe Awl, and other influential media.

Plot points include an anonymous website that becomes an Internet sensation – a reality that Shapiro can speak to with authority. Not only did Pitchfork Reviews Reviews, the blog that he started covertly four years ago, earn him 100,000 followers and a New York Times profile, but it also led to writing positions at The Wall Street JournalInterview Magazine, and The New Yorker.

Today, Shapiro’s focus is on his legal education – a decision outlined in a “love letter” to law school, posted this week on Gawker.

“You might really like law school,” he writes. “No one ever told me, but now you know.”
