07.24.14 David E. Leach III '76 Named Regional Director of National Labor Relations Board
    David Leach

David E. Leach III ’76 was recently promoted to Regional Director of the National Labor Relation Board (NLRB)’s Regional Office in Newark, New Jersey (Region 22). An adjunct professor at the Law School since 2001, Leach will enforce the nation’s primary labor law covering private sector employees in northern and central New Jersey.

The announcement is the latest in a storied career at the NLRB, which Leach first joined in 1976 as a Field Attorney. Since then he has risen steadily through the ranks, from Supervisory Attorney (1984) and Deputy Regional Attorney (1988) to his most recent role as Regional Attorney in 2012.

“I started at the Manhattan office after graduating from law school and was there until last Friday,” he joked.

Leach studied to be a priest before attending BLS, and said he wanted to become “the kind of lawyer who would make a difference in people’s lives.”

“I saw that labor law would allow me to help people who were experiencing injustices at work,” he said. “I can’t count the number of people who have come to me in tears. It feels good to know that I have helped in some way.”

In addition to teaching a collective bargaining seminar and an advanced labor law course at BLS, Leach has been a senior lecturer at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University since 1985.
