    Despite heavy traffic and celebrity endorsements, the file-sharing site was recently shut down for allegedly diverting $500 million in film, television, and music revenue. The dismantling of the site is particularly relevant in light of the controversy surrounding the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), which have both been protested by giants such as Google and Wikipedia. Professor Jason Mazzone commented on the fate of to American Public Media's Marketplace Tech Report. "The immediate impact upon consumers is probably going to be quite significant and quite dramatic," he said. "There are few other sites that really match Megaupload in terms of the amount of content and the number of users."
