Evidence

This course presents a comprehensive overview of evidence law, including relevancy and admissibility of evidence, competency, examination and impeachment of witnesses, privileges, presumptions and burdens of proof. Class discussion will be based on the Federal Rules of Evidence, cases and problems.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:

Letter grade with pass/fail option. Final exam.

Medical Malpractice

This course examines the liability of medical practitioners and institutions for patients' iatrogenic injuries. Specifically, it covers the following issues: definition of medical malpractice; legal frameworks: tort, contract, and consumer protection; medical care standards; expert testimony requirement and other evidentiary rules; medical due process: informed consent and record keeping requirements; causation: case in fact, proximate cause, and lost chances to recover from illness; damage caps; institutional liability; time bars: statues of limitations and repose.

Letter grade only. Final exam.
