    12.19.12 Professor Cynthia Godsoe Discusses Parent Accountability for Their Children's Actions

    Professor Cynthia Godsoe was interviewed recently by the Brooklyn Daily Eagle aboue the ongoing debate of whether parents should be held accountable when their children have caused injuries to others. She argued that laws penalizing parents for negligence when their children cause harm do not actually address the main problems. She said, "Parental responsibility statutes in fact cover up the real causes of these tragedies — untreated mental illness and lax gun laws — by framing school shootings and other juvenile crime as the private failings of one family."
