Brooklyn Law School Career Services Office is offering for the first time a three-part series on career management, growth, and change for experienced alumni.

Camille Chin-Kee-Fatt, Director of Brooklyn Law School’s Career Services Center says, “For alumni seeking to change or grow in their jobs, this series will provide them with a proactive approach and strategic thinking.”

The series begins with a panel of practitioners and career development professionals who will offer alumni advice about how to market themselves in a down economy. Panelists will discuss advanced networking techniques and resumé and cover letter writing advice for experienced attorneys.

The second event focuses on strategies alumni should consider when starting a small firm partnership. As legal costs continue to rise, clients are increasingly turning to smaller firms to meet their legal needs. For alumni who are considering starting their own practice or joining with a few colleagues to start a small firm, this second panel discussion led by practitioners and small firm advisors will offer insight into starting a practice. Topics will include how to choose a business entity, whether to go solo or join with a partner, the details involved in creating a practice, and how to develop a client base and business plan.

The third event offers a unique perspective for those seeking to advance their career who aren’t necessarily seeking to change their job. This program is geared towards junior to mid-level associates at small to mid-size firms and will focus on various professional development considerations. Attendees will hear how they can maximize the value of their current position and make themselves indispensable to their employer, recognize and obtain the skills needed to succeed, and acquire successful marketing and business development skills.
