Anta Cissé-Green, senior counsel in the Tax and Private Client Services Practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, was selected by the New York Law Journal as one of its six 2015 “Lawyers Who Lead by Example” in the area of pro bono work. Cissé-Green, who provides estate planning services to low-income New Yorkers, represents minors in custody proceedings and helps nonprofits develop planned giving strategies, was recognized for her “outstanding record of providing crucial legal services to poor or nearly poor New Yorkers.” (9/1/2015)

Curry III, principal in the regulatory and compliance practice of Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics LLP, has been named Deloitte Advisory anti-money laundering (AML) and economic sanctions practice leader. Based in Washington, DC, he has served Deloitte Advisory’s clients with AML, sanctions, and financial crimes matters since 2006. (5/18/2016)

John P. “Jack” Flanagan joined the New York office of Andrews Kurth as a partner in the Business Transactions/Real Estate practice. His practice focuses on representing lenders, borrowers, private equity funds, developers, and operators in all aspects of commercial real estate. (4/5/2016)

Naomi Johnson joined Ball Janik LLP as a litigation associate in the firm’s Portland, OR, office. Her principal areas of practice are commercial litigation, employment law, and insurance recovery. (3/8/2016)

Deirdre M. Lok, assistant director and counsel of the Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale, was appointed to the 2015 Age-Friendly NYC Commission. The Commission works closely with City government, business and non-profit sectors, to assure the City is addressing the challenges and leveraging the opportunities posed by a rapidly increasing population of older New Yorkers in four major areas: community and civic participation, housing, public spaces and transportation, and health and social services. Nicholas J. Minella is currently deployed overseas with the 10th Mountain Division (LI) as part of United States Forces-Afghanistan. Captain Minella is a U.S. Army Reservist serving as a Judge Advocate in Afghanistan. (3/8/2016)

Camille J. Varlack was appointed by New York State Governor Andrew Cuamo as deputy director for ethics, risk and compliance in the Executive Chamber. She will coordinate the Governor’s statewide ethics, risk and compliance program across agencies and authorities, working with the state’s chief risk officer. She previously served as special counsel to the superintendent of the Department of Financial Services for ethics, risk and compliance. (2/3/2016)
