Lisa A. Bova-Hiatt was appointed executive director of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery. Bova-Hiatt joined the Office in 2014, first as general counsel, then acting chief operating officer, and most recently as its acting executive director. She previously served in the administration of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg doing legislative affairs. (11/25/2015)
Jeffrey B. Gewirtz, executive vice president of business affairs and chief legal officer for the Barclays Center, Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders, and Jeffrey S. Sherman '80, vice president and general counsel of Becton Dickinson and Company,are both at the helm of legal departments that were named to The Legal 500’s “GC Powerlist – US Teams 2015,” recognizing “the most influential and innovative in-house teams working in the U.S.” To create the list, The Legal 500 canvassed opinions from law firm partners and in-house counsel across the U.S. to identify corporate counsel that have been “instrumental in changing or forming opinions within their company or industry; developing brilliant technical solutions to complex issues creating innovative structures to ensure that the in-house function is driving business forward; or providing a business working model that other corporate counsel should follow." Deborah E. Henry, founder of consulting firm Flex-Time Lawyers LLC and co-founder of secondment firm Bliss Lawyers, published a second book, Finding Bliss: Innovative Legal Models for Happy Clients and Happy Lawyers (ABA, Jan. 2015). The book, co-authored by the co-founders of Bliss Lawyers, provides creative and disruptive solutions to improve legal practice and client service by exploring seven themes including: innovation; value; predictability and trust; flexibility; talent development; diversity and inclusion; and, relationship building. Carolyn Pokorny, formerly a partner at the New York litigation firm of Levine Lee LLP, became the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Attorney General. She previously served for fourteen years at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, EDNY, most recently as Deputy Chief of its Criminal Division. (4/10/2015)
Blair W. Todt was appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president, chief legal and administrative officer and secretary at WellCare Health Plans, Inc. Todt is responsible for the legal, government affairs, public policy, business development, external communications and corporate strategy functions of the company. Todt joined WellCare in 2010 and most recently served as its chief strategy and development officer. Headquartered in Tampa, FL, Wellcare provides managed care services targeted to government-sponsored health care programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, Prescription Drug Plans and the Health Insurance Marketplace. He focuses on building patent portfolios for companies in the areas of electronics, signal processing, powerline carrier systems, wireless communications, networking, and complex computer hardware and software systems. He counsels clients in all aspects of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and has represented clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
