Ory Apelboim joined Blank Rome’s matrimonial and family law group as an associate in the firm’s New York office. He concentrates his practice in all aspects of matrimonial and family law matters, including divorce, property distribution, child custody, and spousal and child support. Joshua Kopelowitz, a member of Rosenberg & Estis, P.C., was cited in a decision handed down by the New York Appellate Division, Second Department. In a matter of first impression before any appellate court in the State, the Second Department held that a provision in the lease waiving the tenant’s right to seek declaratory and Yellowstone relief was enforceable and did not violate public policy. At the very outset of the decision, the court makes specific reference to a 2014 New York Law Journal article co-written by Kopelowitz addressing the question of whether such waivers are enforceable. Deirdre M. W. Lok was awarded the GC Impact Award by New York Law Journal, in recognition of her accomplishments as assistant director and general counsel of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at the Hebrew Home at Riverdale. Lok also serves as an adjunct professor and runs the elder rights clinic at Brooklyn Law School. (11/22/2017)

Winston Paes, former chief of the business and securities fraud section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, joined Debevoise & Plimpton’s New York office as counsel in the white collar and regulatory defense group. As a federal prosecutor, Paes worked on several notable cases relating to securities and accounting frauds, foreign bribery matters, insider trading, and Ponzi and kickback schemes. (6/1/2017)

Paul J. Proulx joined carter Ledyard & Milburn as a partner in the firm’s real estate department. He focuses his practice on land use, zoning, and development matters, as well as general real estate transactions. He was previously senior counsel at Holland & Knight LLP. (6/1/2017)
