Jennifer Assa-Kass was a speaker at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) 2016 Claims College School of Professional Lines, held in Baltimore in September. She is a senior claims specialist with Nationwide’s management liability and specialty claims where she handles employment practices liability claims for for-profit and nonprofit insureds. Lisa A. Bova-Hiatt was appointed executive director of the New York Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery. Bova-Hiatt joined the Office in 2014, first as general counsel, then acting chief operating officer, and most recently as its acting executive director. She previously served in the administration of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg handling legislative affairs. (11/25/2015)

Frank V. Carone was honored by the Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) at their annual fundraising gala in May. The VLP provides free civil legal services to low-income Brooklyn residents. Carone, executive partner at Abrams Fensterman, focuses his practice on complex civil and criminal matters for individuals, corporations, governmental agencies, NFPs, professional practices, and family offices. Jeffrey B. Gewirtz, executive vice president of business affairs and chief legal officer for the Barclays Center, Brooklyn Nets and New York Islanders, and Jeffrey S. Sherman '80, vice president and general counsel of Becton Dickinson and Company,are both at the helm of legal departments that were named to The Legal 500’s “GC Powerlist – US Teams 2015,” recognizing “the most influential and innovative in-house teams working in the U.S.” To create the list, The Legal 500 canvassed opinions from law firm partners and in-house counsel across the U.S. to identify corporate counsel that have been “instrumental in changing or forming opinions within their company or industry; developing brilliant technical solutions to complex issues creating innovative structures to ensure that the in-house function is driving business forward; or providing a business working model that other corporate counsel should follow." Shehzad Hasan was promoted to partner in the New York office of Steptoe & Johnson, where he focuses his practice on products liability and insurance litigation. (5/18/2016)

Andrea Strong, who returned to the Law School part-time this fall as its development communications manager, continues to work as a freelance food writer. Her piece, “Why Serious Bakers Have Mother Issues,” was chosen to be included in the Best Food Writing of 2016 (9/9/2016).

Blair W. Todt joined Health Care Service Corporation as senior vice president and chief legal officer, overseeing the management of the legal division and providing legal advice and consultation on legal matters affecting the company. He previously served as senior vice president, chief legal and administrative officer and secretary of WellCare Health Plans. (7/13/2016)

Nat Wasserstein was appointed to the board of advisors of Mango Capital, a real estate holding company specializing in acquiring undervalued American land and complimentary operating businesses in promising markets. He is managing director of Lindenwood Associates in White Plains, NY. (5/22/2016)
