Intensive Trial Advocacy

Students go through "boot camp" for trial lawyers. Using a simulated criminal case complete with court documents, police reports and other discovery, students will take either the prosecution or defense side and practice fundamental advocacy skills. These include the development of a case theory, opening arguments, dealing with evidentiary issues, interviewing and preparing witnesses, direct and cross-examination (including impeachment exercises), and summation. A full mock trial for each set of students (prosecutor/defense counsel) will take place on the final day, before guest judges and experienced trial lawyers.

Grading and Method of Evaluation:

Letter grade with pass/fail option. Students graded on in-class simulations and mock trial.
