Terms of Service and Privacy Notice
Please read the following carefully. If you have been an enrolled student, you signed a written version of this agreement. Your continued use of network services at Brooklyn Law School signifies acceptance of the terms of service.

Terms of Service
For the purpose of furthering the educational mission of Brooklyn Law School (BLS), we offer to you a limited, non-assignable license to use the BLS network. You acknowledge that the service is offered "AS IS". No warranties are made and are disclaimed, including but not limited to: availability of service or of a particular facility, including wired or wireless connectivity, operation of servers, protection from data loss or delay, and compatibility with your particular hardware and software configuration. You are advised to make backup copies of important data, utilize anti-virus and spyware protection, and provide for alternative service.

You agree that:

  • You will not use the network to commit any act which is a violation of New York State or United States Federal law

  • You will not use the network to harass or violate the privacy of other users, to impersonate another person, to send unsolicited commercial advertising or any continuous automated transmission (i.e. "spam", "mail bombing", "bots") over the network, or otherwise obstruct or impair the use of the system by others.

  • You may not attach to or operate on the Network a) servers (including file, web or peer-to-peer file sharing), or b) routers (including wired or wireless transmitters or base stations) without prior approval by BLS.

  • You will not allow access to your account, including revealing user names, passwords, and other identifiers, to any unauthorized person.

  • You will timely notify us of any problems that you encounter so that we can improve the service.
BLS serves as an Internet Service Provider, and does not exercise editorial control over your private communications through the network. Postings or other data published on a public-access discussion group, website or facility hosted by BLS become the property of Brooklyn Law School, have no expectation of privacy, and may be edited, unless another arrangement is made with BLS through explicit agreement. BLS disclaims any responsibility, and you agree to indemnify BLS against any third party for any liability resulting from communications you initiate. While BLS will respect the privacy and freedom of expression of your communications, BLS reserves the right to examine your communications for security, maintenance, or upon your request. Any violation of these terms will immediately terminate your license to use the computer system, and may subject you to discipline or other law enforcement action as set forth in the Student Handbook. BLS shall have the final right to determine whether a violation of the Terms of Service has occurred. These Terms of Service may be changed at any time by posting at our web site, http://www.brooklaw.edu; usage of the computer network after 7 days of such posting shall be deemed to be adequate notice and acceptance of the updated Terms of Service.

Expiration of License. Your license to use the BLS network will automatically expire upon the occurrence of one of these events:

  1. On August 1 of the year after your graduation from the Law School.

  2. Immediately without notice upon separation from the Law School for any reason other than graduation from the Law School. Military service, allowed leaves of absence, and periods of study away while still matriculated at BLS are not "separations" for the purpose of this section.
Privileges to utilize the BLS Library's computer labs expire on January 1 of the year after graduation from the Law School.

Written application for continuation of network services after expiration must be made to the Information Technology office stating the valid academic reasons for continuation of the account. BLS is under no obligation to approve the application.

If your account expired due to Part A above, you may request that emails that are sent to your BLS email address be forwarded without charge to another valid email account that you specify to the Information Technology office.

Upon 30 days after account expiration, all data stored within the account will be considered abandoned and are subject to erasure or other disposal at the Information Technology office's discretion.

This agreement is made at Brooklyn, New York, United States of America. The laws and courts of the State of New York and the United States of America with jurisdiction within the City of New York shall have exclusive jurisdiction to govern the interpretation and enforcement of this agreement, without reference to any conflict of laws rules. Notifications relating to the Terms of Service, abuse of services, illegal activity, or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act should be made to Information Technology, Brooklyn Law School, 250 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, N.Y.11201, email: support@brooklaw.edu.
