Summer Legal Process Course
This two-credit course gives participating students an introduction to law school. It is conducted for seven weeks during the summer before the first fall semester. The Summer Legal Process Course concentrates on case law development, statutory analysis and an introduction to legal writing.
The course is offered to a small number of entering students. Invitations are typically extended to students who have been out of school for at least ten years; students who have learning or physical disabilities; students for whom English is a second language and who completed fewer than two years of higher education in English; and minority students. Participation is entirely voluntary, and no tuition is charged. Classes are held in the evening so as not to interfere with students' work schedules.
The summer course is team-taught by two members of the full-time faculty and by the School's Director of Educational Services, thus exposing the students to several different teaching styles. The course also provides many opportunities for students to receive feedback on case briefs and legal memos assigned throughout the summer. Not only is there faculty feedback but teaching assistants also meet regularly with students to review their progress and to address any problems the students may be having with the course material.
The summer course carries two credits. Students take both a practice exam and a graded final exam.
