Brooklyn Law School Student Health Insurance
What follows is only a brief description of the Brooklyn Law School Student Health Insurance Plans.
Automatic Student Injury Insurance
Brooklyn Law School is pleased to provide, at no cost to its students, a basic injury health plan for each student enrolled in at least 8 credits, called the “Mandatory Injury Only Plan.” It is offered through United Healthcare and administered by Gallagher Koster Insurance Agency. Students meeting the credit requirement will be automatically enrolled in this Plan.
- The Mandatory Injury Only Plan provides benefits for “Covered Expenses” resulting from a “Covered Injury.” Covered Expenses will be paid at the “usual and customary charges” subject to a $25 deductible per injury, up to a maximum of $5000 per injury.
- “Covered expenses” on the Mandatory Injury Only Plan include hospital room and board charges (up to the maximum rate shown per day in the schedule of benefits for a semi-private room), intensive care unit charges, all necessary medical and surgical services and supplies while confined in a hospital, outpatient surgical expenses, outpatient medical care expenses provided by a hospital following a surgical procedure, professional local ambulance services, laboratory and x-ray tests and treatments, dental expenses resulting from an accidental injury, and outpatient pharmacy expenses.

Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Insurance
The Mandatory Injury Only Insurance Plan provides coverage only in limited circumstances, and students may desire additional coverage. Brooklyn Law School offers additional insurance through United Healthcare, which is administered by Gallagher Koster Insurance Agency, called the “Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Plan.” Students who enroll in the Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Plan will be responsible for the payment of costs associated with the Plan. In addition, students may, at their own cost, obtain coverage for spouses and dependent children through the Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Plan.
- The Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan covers medical expenses, including hospital room and board, inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, emergency outpatient care, lab and x-rays, mental health, prescription drugs, physician office visits, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation of remains services.
- The maximum benefit per injury or sickness per insured person is $25,000.
The deadline for enrollment in the Voluntary Student Injury and Sickness Insurance is September 15, 2008.
