Exam Conflicts
If you have an exam conflict, you must notify the Registrar.
The Law School recognizes six situations for which a final exam may be rescheduled:
- Direct conflicts (two exams scheduled concurrently)
- Two exams scheduled back to back (e.g. an exam from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and another the same day from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., or an exam one evening and another the next morning)
- Four exams scheduled within one week (Week One: 4/30 - 5/2; Week Two: 5/5 - 5/9)
- Two exams scheduled in a single day.
- Exams scheduled on three consecutive calendar days
- Religious conflict
If you have any questions about exam conflicts or scheduling, please contact Chris Bester, Examination and Grading Coordinator at chris.bester@brooklaw.edu or by phone at (718) 780-7913.
Anonymity Policy
Brooklyn Law School has a policy of maintaining anonymity of grading final examinations for its students. Students are given a confidential examination number to place on their final examinations for identification purposes, and this number is changed each semester by the Registrar's Office.
Exams on File
All full-time and adjunct faculty must provide a sample examination for each course that they teach. If the examination includes short-answer questions, only 25% (but not less than five) of such questions must be included. This exam must be illustrative of the type of examination that the professor ordinarily gives. A professor may change the style of an examination, but should tell the class in advance of the examination period not to rely on the examination on file. You may view Exams on File online. Sample exams are no longer available in the Library.
Examination Formats
No more than 35% of the grade on a final examination can be based on multiple choice or true/false questions.
Computerized Exams
Students may take examinations on computers using Securexam, a software package that ensures exam security by locking out other programs on the computer. Students are responsible for providing their own computers and Ethernet cords to use Securexam.
You must adhere to all deadlines set forth by the Office of the Registrar if you would like to use your computer on any exam. Late requests will not be accommodated for any reason.
Please refer any questions regarding Securexam and examination procedure to Chris Bester at chris.bester@brooklaw.edu.

The Subotnick Center
The Subotnick Conference Center at 250 Joralemon St. will be reserved as a quiet space to be used exclusively for taking take-home exams. You may access this room if you are picking the exam up in person from the take-home control room, or in some instances the Moot Court Room, or if you are going to take the exam via Planet SSI. We know that the library is sometimes crowded and noisy, so we wanted to reserve a space for you that would allow you to take your exam here at school without interference. This space is delegated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Hours for the Subotnick Center, 10th & 11th Floor of 250 Joralemon Street:
April 30th thru May 12th from 9am-10pm. Please note that the Subotnick Center will not be available to students on Tuesday, May 6th. On that day room 720M has been reserved for students taking take-home exams.
Studying, small group work, and/or discussion will not be permitted in this area. This will be strictly enforced. Please be reminded that you are not to collaborate on your take-home exam with any other person. So while you can go to this space to take your exam, you are not permitted to discuss the exam with anyone in your class or anyone who has not yet taken the exam. Working on a take-home exam in conjunction with another person or group of people is a violation of the Code of Academic Responsibility. Please refer to the Academic Handbook if you should have any questions regarding the Code of Academic Responsibility.
You will have access to the wireless network, as well as wired connections.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation in maintaining this area for the use of take-home exams only.
