Prize and Award Recipients
If you received a named prize or award at commencement, you may pick it up at the Dean's office between 10 a.m and 6 p.m. weekdays, beginning Monday, June 11. If you would prefer to have your award mailed to you, please e-mail your request and present address to marylee.bedford@brooklaw.edu. Congratulations!

Graduation Requirements

June 2007 Graduation Candidates

Upper Class Writing Requirement
If you have not yet satisfied the Upper Class Writing Requirement (UCWR), February 2007 graduates must do so this semester. June 2007 graduates are encouraged to do so this semester but may also do so in the Spring 2007 semester. Read more about this graduation requirements and a list of courses offered during the Fall Semester 2006 that satisfy the Upperclass Writing Requirement.

Professional Responsibility
If you have not completed the course in Professional Responsibility, February 2007 graduates must do so this semester. June 2007 graduates may do so in either this semester or in Spring 2007.

Application for Graduation
Degree candidates must complete the Application for Graduation in WebAdvisor. All eligible candidates should complete the application by February 26, 2007.

Final Graduation Audit
The Program Evaluation report assesses students. progress towards satisfying degree requirements. In the past, this report was mailed to students but it is now available on-line in WebAdvisor. Degree candidates for February and June 2007 should review their report prior to the general Add/Drop period for the Fall 2006 semester. Once all grades for the Summer 2006 semester have been received and entered, any student with a deficiency will be contacted by Jennifer Harewood, Assistant Registrar to schedule an appointment. If you have any questions about your status, you may email her at jennifer.harewood@brooklaw.edu. Important information about graduation, certification for bar exams, and cap and gown measurement will be posted on this page through the coming year.


Cap and Gown Measurements

Cap and gown measurements for graduation are being taken online. To enter your measurements visit: Herff Jones Company from now until April 20, 2007 by 11:59pm.


Cap and Gown Distribution
May 31 & June 1, 2007

Caps and gowns will be distributed in Room 104M in the Library on the following dates:

Thursday, May 31, 2007
11:00 a.m..7:00 p.m.

Friday, June 1, 2007
11:00 a.m..7:00 p.m.

If you cannot pick up your cap & gown during these times, they will be brought directly to Avery Fisher Hall the day of commencement.


Tickets
To request commencement tickets, please fill out the online ticket request form. Please be sure to include your full name and phone number.

Important: If you are not planning to attend graduation, please let us know that as well, so we will be able to allot your tickets to others.

We would appreciate your requesting only the number of tickets you need, taking into account that you also need one ticket for yourself. You may request a maximum of five (5) tickets. This includes one ticket for yourself. If you would like your name put into a lottery for additional tickets, please indicate that on the form. Please keep in mind that most lottery winners only get one extra ticket because of the high demand for tickets.

Please make your requests as soon as possible, but no later than March 16, 2007.

Reminder: Even though you are a graduate, you will need a ticket to enter Avery Fisher Hall. No ticket, no entry.


Ticket Distribution
May 10-14, 2007

Along with your tickets, you will receive an instruction memo from the Faculty Marshals. This will answer many, if not all, of your questions. Graduation tickets will be distributed at the Office of Alumni Relations, Second Floor, One Boerum Place, on the dates/times listed below:

Alumni Participation in Commencement
Deadline: April 30, 2007

It has been a custom at Brooklyn Law School to invite alumni/ae who are family members and domestic partners of graduating students to take part in the commencement ceremony. This includes joining the procession and sitting on stage with faculty and other distinguished guests, and coming forward to present diplomas to their graduating relatives or partners. Caps, gowns and hoods for the family member are provided by the school.

If you have a parent, grandparent, spouse, domestic partner or sibling who graduated from BLS and wants to take part in this way in your commencement, please complete the online request form or come to the Alumni Office on the second floor at One Boerum Place, as soon as possible, but no later than April 30, 2007, and leave your relative.s name, address, phone number and email with Caitlin Monck-Marcellino, or call her immediately at 718-780-0322.


New York State Bar Examination
Applications for the July 24-25, 2007 NYS Bar Exam must either be filed on-line or postmarked between March 26 - April 25, 2007. Application forms and complete instructions may be downloaded from the Board of Law Examiners' Web site: www.nybarexam.org.

Note: A postage meter date is not considered a postmark. Any application not filed within this time period will be denied and returned to the candidate.

In addition, applicants for July 2007 NY State Bar Exam must complete a Handwriting Specimen Form. The scheduled time for filing the Handwriting Specimen Form is March 26 to April 16, 2007 during office hours in the Registrar's Office. Photo identification is required.

In order to take the New York State bar exam, a graduating student must file the New York State Bar Examination Application and the Handwriting Specimen Form.

  • The New York State Bar Examination Application
    The Application is to be downloaded from the NYS Board of Law Examiners. The Application must be notarized and be accompanied by a check or money order in the amount of $250 payable to the NYS Board of Law Examiners.

    For the July 2004 NYS Bar Exam, the Application must be postmarked between March 29, 2004 and April 28, 2004. (Note: a postage meter date is not considered a postmark.) Also please read an important notice regarding Special Tisha B'Av Accommodation for July 2004 NYS Bar Examination and the Pilot Labtop Program.

    Important - New Address (posted 3/30/04): July 2004 NYS Bar Applications must be sent to the new address of the NYS Examiners' Office.

    Form Updated: Also, in applications downloaded before March, Form #47, the MBE transfer for those taking the exam in NY and CT, ME, MD, MA or NJ, was not included. If you downloaded it before March, please download the application again.

  • The Handwriting Specimen Form with the Registrar.s Office
    The Form must be completed in the Registrar.s Office and photo ID must be shown. Upon graduation, the handwriting specimen and an official transcript, in lieu of the Law School Certificate of Attendance, will be submitted on the student.s behalf to the NYS Board of Examiners.

    For the July 2004 NYS Bar Exam, the schedule for filing the Handwriting Specimen Form is February 9 . March 29, 2004 during office hours in the Registrar.s Office.
