Late Payment Fee
Late payment fees will be charged to all student and housing accounts that are delinquent and are not completely covered by pending aid or a FACTS payment plan by the semester due date. This fee will be charged to each account that is delinquent (Tuition and/or Housing). A $75 late payment fee will be charged during the first 30 calendar days after the due date, and $150 for each additional 30 calendar days that the balance remains unpaid. These fees are in addition to any other fees incurred.

Returned Checks
Checks returned by the bank due to insufficient funds will be re-deposited and are subject to a $50 returned check fee. If a check is returned for reason of stopped payment or closed account, the student's registration may be canceled. Brooklyn Law School may require that future payments be made by certified check or money order. Should a check be returned due to a bank error, a letter from the bank will allow us to accept personal checks and the returned check fee may be removed.

Summer Session Fees & Policies

Summer 2008 Tuition

Torts Only:$750
All other classes for credit:$1350 for up to 8 credits
Non-Matriculating students:$1350 per credit
Late Registration Fee as of 05/23/08 (excluding clinics)$15
Late Payment Fee$50 per month

Any student taking a course in the summer session for credit must pay this fee, including students taking Clinics for credit.

Payment Method
The Summer Session Fee must be paid in full to Student Accounts before registration will be allowed. You can pay via private loan, check, money order, e-check or credit card.

If you plan to pay by private loans please fill out the Private Loan Intention Form (PDF) and have Financial Aid certify that you have completed all steps necessary for a budget adjustment to receive this loan. Once the completed form is submitted to Student Accounts you will be cleared to register.

Summer Session Refund Policy
To receive a 100% refund you must drop all summer courses by 5/18/08. No refund will be granted for courses dropped on or after the first day of the summer term, 5/19/08.

Course of Study Policy
Summer session fees are not considered part of a student's payment towards a full course of study and are unrelated to any fees paid for the school year.

Statement of Account

A statement of account is mailed approximately one month prior to the start of each semester. Anyone wishing to have their statement of accounts sent to a different address than the rest of their mail (grades etc.) must fill out an AR Address form.

It is the student's responsibility to have tuition paid by the due date regardless if the student has received a statement of account or not. Brooklyn Law School cannot be responsible for lost, late, or misdirected mail. Please allow adequate time for mail delivery and processing.

Merit scholarships and Need-based scholarships are applied directly to the student's account. Perkins Loans are applied once a signed promissory note is received by Financial Aid. All other aid including New York State TAP, Stafford, private loans, and outside scholarships, are credited to the student's account upon receipt of the funds by the Law School.

Please keep in mind that some federal loan lenders deduct loan and processing fees, usually 3%, from the certified amount. When the funds are received by Student Accounts the amount that was indicated on your statement of account as pending will be less this fee. Please contact your lender to see if they will deduct this fee and make an adjustment to your payment if necessary.

All aid that has not been received by Student Accounts, but has been certified by Financial Aid will appear on your Tuition Statement of Account as Pending Aid, not on your Housing Statement of Account. All payments or credits made to the student's account are applied first toward any balance due on the Tuition account and then on the Housing account. If the total amount of loans and aid exceeds the amount of the balance on the student.s tuition and housing accounts, the surplus funds will be refunded to the student. It is important to note, however, that refunds are based on the funds that have actually been received and applied to the student's account. Credit balances will not be refunded any earlier than the first day of classes.

If pending aid has not been received by Student Accounts within 30 days from the date it was certified by the Financial Aid office, it will be canceled and the balance due on your student account will become immediately past due and subject to Late Payment Fees. Please follow up with your lenders to make sure you have completed all the necessary paperwork.
